The way gam'iyya, kameti and hagbad have always worked — now with KYC, fraud checks and reminders. We never touch your money.
An ancient practice. A modern trust layer. Same outcome — everyone gets their full pot, nobody pays interest.
Invite 8–15 people you trust — family, mosque, colleagues. Agree the monthly amount (£100, £500, £1,000…) and how many months it runs. Each member gets one slot.
Each month, every member pays the same amount — directly by bank transfer to whoever's turn it is. One person receives the whole pot that month. The order is set up front by ballot, agreement, or auction.
After the cycle ends, every member has paid in the same total and received the same total. No interest, no debt, no riba. Just a faster way to access your own savings.
10 people, £500 each per month, for 10 months. Every month one person gets £5,000 — straight to their bank account from the other nine. By month 10, every member has paid £5,000 and received £5,000. The person who took month 1 used it like an interest-free advance. The person who took month 10 used it like a forced-savings plan. Same total. Halal end-to-end.
Rotating savings circles have existed in Muslim and diaspora communities for centuries. We didn't invent the model. We built the trust layer that the model needed to scale safely.
Academics call it a ROSCA — Rotating Savings and Credit Association. The World Bank estimates hundreds of billions of dollars move through these circles globally every year, almost all of it informally.
An informal practice with billions of pounds at stake deserves more than a WhatsApp group and a spreadsheet.
No interest (riba), no uncertainty (gharar), no gambling (maysir). Total in equals total out for every member. The model has been publicly endorsed as halal by Islamic Finance Guru and Mufti Billal Omarjee.
HalalPot never holds, transfers or processes member money. Every payment goes bank-to-bank between members. We're the schedule, the receipts and the safety net — not a wallet.
Every member is identity-verified before joining a circle. The circle organiser sees verification status. Reduces the "who's actually behind this number" risk that informal kameti groups have always lived with.
Members build a trust score over time through consistent on-time contributions. Visible to every circle they apply to join. Reputation that follows you, the way it always has — but now portable.
"It's slot 3 this month — pay £500 to Sarah by Friday. Sort code 12-34-56, account 12345678, reference HP-123." Email + SMS. Sarah confirms when it lands. The schedule never falls through the cracks.
Suspicious patterns — duplicate identities across circles, members who join and immediately request the early slot, repeated rejections — get flagged automatically. Same protection a bank would do, applied to your group.
A group of people — typically 8 to 15 — who agree to put in the same amount each month and take turns getting the whole pot. After everyone has had a turn, the cycle ends. You've paid in exactly what you got out. No interest is charged or earned. It's how millions of Muslim, South Asian, African and Caribbean families have built deposits, paid for weddings and funded businesses for centuries.
No. HalalPot is a software platform — the schedule, the receipts, the reminders, the fraud checks. The actual money moves directly between members' bank accounts. We have no wallet, no float, no held balances. This is intentional: it keeps the model simple, halal, and outside the heaviest financial regulation.
Bank savings pay interest (riba), which is forbidden in Islam. They also don't give you any way to access a large lump sum quickly without taking on debt. A savings circle does both — you save with people you trust, and you can be the one to receive the full pot in any month you choose by agreeing to slot order up front.
It's structured. With a defined schedule, defined amounts, fraud checks, identity verification, automatic reminders and a written record every member can see. Less awkward, less likely to break a relationship, easier to scale beyond just your immediate family.
HalalPot tracks every contribution and flags missed payments immediately. The circle organiser is alerted. Members who consistently miss payments see their trust score fall and may be removed from current and future circles. Because every member is KYC-verified, there is a real identity behind every name.
Because HalalPot never holds, moves or transfers member funds, our regulatory perimeter is much smaller than a payment institution. Full perimeter analysis with our UK fintech counsel is in progress. Our regulatory status will be published on the platform as it is confirmed. We are NOT an authorised payment institution and we do NOT operate as one.
Built on Islamic principles, but the rotating savings model is universal. Pakistani kameti, Somali hagbad, Caribbean pardna, West African susu, Mexican tanda. Anyone who can form a trusted group of 8-15 people can run a HalalPot circle.
